Citation styles are the rules that dictate how books, articles and other materials are cited. There are many different styles for different disciplines and purposes.

Your instructor may want you to use a particular style for your writing. Read the syllabus to see if the instructor has specified a particular style. If no style is specified, ask the instructor if a particular citation style is requested for class assignments.
