What is the Information Cycle?

Broadly, the information cycle refers to how information changes over time. More specifically, the information cycle describes the progression of media coverage for an event or topic.

Information about an event may be produced

  • minutes later on social media.
  • within hours or days in the news.
  • within days or weeks in magazines and blogs.

BUT

  • months or years later in scholarly articles.
  • years later in books.
