Software Carpentry

About the Carpentries

The Carpentries aim to help researchers by teaching them computing skills in order to work more effectively with data. Comprehensive, two-day workshops cover concepts and tools that workshop participants can apply to their own research and workflows. These tools include, but are not limited to:

  • The Unix shells (bash, zsh, sh, etc.)
  • Git and GitHub
  • R
  • Python
  • SQL
  • OpenRefine

The overall Carpentries project is comprised of Software CarpentryData Carpentry, and Library Carpentry. Each of those is a community of instructors, trainers, maintainers, helpers, and supporters.

This page contains brief overviews of some of the tools, along with installation and support information for workshop participants.
