New Student Orientation Guide

A quick guide to the UC Merced Library, built for summer orientations and ASCEND.

For Students

The UC Merced Library does not typically purchase textbooks, however, there are several ways we contribute to textbook affordability:

  • We purchase licenses to many eBooks, some of which are used as required course readings, and
  • we offer the Course Resources service to instructors to put print resources on short-term loans for all students in a course to borrow.

Check for your Course Materials

  1. First, check your syllabus for links to required Course Readings.
  2. Next, check for access to eBooks and articles through UC Library Search. If you're off campus, be sure to connect to the campus network using the VPN!
  1. Next, borrow print or digital materials using the "Get it @ UC" links or through InterLibrary Loan. Don't forget to sign in to see your options!

  1. Search 'Course Resources' to see what's available by selecting that option in the dropdown menu.

  1. Finally, you can submit purchase suggestions through our online form or ask your Instructor to contact their Library Liaison.
