Finding & Using eBooks: Home

Finding eBooks


Use Melvyl to search for books or for e-books by keyword, author, title and other criteria.


  • Search in Melvyl
  • To see only ebooks, click "eBooks" under Format, on the lefthand side
  • Click on the name of an ebook that interests you
    • If the ebook is held at UC Merced, click "Access Online" to open it
    • If the ebook is not held at UC Merced, click "UC-eLinks" and then "Request this from the library" to make a request.


You will need to be connected to the VPN to access ebooks from off-campus.

Using Melvyl to Find Books and eBooks

Use Melvyl to find eBooks, print books, as well as articles and other materials (UC Merced Library, 1:58).

E-books are delivered from many different platforms. When possible, our priority is to purchase titles and collections from publishers and providers who allow perpetual access, unlimited users, and few restrictions, if any, on printing and copying.

E-book Reader Software

Any of the library's e-books can be read online using a web browser. The following software is required for offline reading:

Adobe Reader

  • Use with any DRM-free PDF 3-book.
  • Use on Windows, Apple, or Android devices.

Adobe Digital Editions

  • Use with Ebook Central.
  • Use this software for offline reading on your desktop Windows (PC) or Apple (Mac) computer. This reader can also be used with screen reading software for vision impaired users.

Bluefire Reader

  • Use with Ebook Central.
  • Use this software for offline reading on iOS or Android mobile devices.
