Sociology 205: Graduate Writing and Publishing Seminar (Polonijo - Spring 2025)

Welcome!

Welcome to my guide for Sociology 205: Graduate Writing & Publishing. I've decided to structure this guide a bit differently from some of the other ones I've made.

This first page features links to several other guides and tutorials available through UC Merced Library.

The other pages focus on specific learning outcomes related to the Library Instruction Session that will take place on 2/25/2025.

Library Instruction Learning Outcomes

As a result of the library instruction session, graduate students will be able to:

  • Distinguish between types of scholarly texts (i.e. review and empirical articles) and select those appropriate to one's information need
    • Use Subject Terms to locate literature on key concepts, theories, and topics in databases
  • Employ reading strategies to efficiently read information and strategically select the most relevant sources
  • Discuss notetaking strategies to share ways to avoid plagiarism (e.g. using notecards, with a citation manager, using a document or spreadsheet)
  • Consider resources available for help writing a literature review
