Three Search Strategies

Reviewing Search Strategies

Let's talk about how we can use different search strategies to help narrow down our searches. 

We can use AND / OR to join search terminology.

  • OR - joins similar terms / terms that get at the same issue - BROADENS
  • AND - joins dissimilar terms - NARROWS

 

You can also search for a specific phrase with "quotation marks ".  Most databases will recognize the using of quotation marks to search for two or more words together in the same order.

 

Search for alternate forms of a work by truncating it and adding an asterisk *. For example: Med* searches for Medical, Medicine, Meditate, Mediate...
