Searching tips:
Search in Different Databases
Some databases may provide more extensive coverage of topics. Try a couple of different databases to make sure you are able to find what you need.
Think Broadly About Your Topic
If you are searching for information about a more obscure TV show or song, for example, you may want to dive into research about the genre overall. You may be able to find resources that discuss the general topic you are interested in and then you can connect the dots to see how your song or TV show fits within that framework (or doesn't).
Searching for Names
Search for a person's name in quotation marks so the database doesn't just search for their first or last name.
Examples:
- "Barbra Streisand"
- "Eartha Kitt"
- "Mariah Carey"
If you mostly see books about the person but not written by the person, in UC Library Search scroll down to narrow your results by author. Click on the name of the author you are interested in. (Of course, this will only work if the person has written a book!)
