Course Resources

About and how to use the Course Resources service.

Print Resources

The Library makes requested complete books or print works available to students for a 2-hour, library-use-only loan. Print materials can be checked out at the Services Desk on the second floor of the library. Items not returned on time will accrue an overdue fee at the rate of $1/minute.

  • If the title is available as an ebook we will link to the ebook in CatCourses. Ebooks are accessible to the greatest number of students. Multi-user licenses will be obtained when available.
     
  • Consumables such as workbooks are not eligible
     
  • The Library will not purchase textbooks for the purpose of saving students the cost of purchasing what should be required textbooks. Please review the Library's textbook policy for more information. Open Educational Resources (OER) may be another option for your course.
     
  • We will accept personal copies for 2-hour, library-use-only loan. Personal copies may be used heavily and may not be returned in the same condition as received.

eBooks

The Library makes requested ebooks available to students through the Course Resources tool in CatCourses.

  • If a title is not available as an ebook you may request a print copy be made available to students for a 2-hour, library-use-only loan. Otherwise, you may request a portion of the book be digitized and made available through CatCourses.
     
  • Multi-user licenses will be obtained when available.

Book Chapters

The Library makes requested book chapters or parts of books available to students through the Course Resources tool in CatCourses.

  • We will digitize book chapters of parts of books if the Library does not have licensed electronic access to the title. If the Library has access to the full ebook, the ebook will be linked instead. Multi-user licenses will be obtained when available.
     
  • Copyright laws prohibit us from digitizing large portions of books. All instructors are responsible for ensuring requests comply with fair use. See the UC Copyright site and the Checklist for Fair Use fore more information on copyright.

Articles

The Library makes requested articles available through the Course Resources tool in CatCourses.

  • Scans will only be posted if the Library does not have licensed electronic access to the article. If an instructor uploads an article and the Library has licensed electronic access, the article will be linked instead.
     
  • Instructors are responsible for ensuring their requests comply with fair use.

Audio/Visual Resources

Audio and video materials, including eligible DVDs, can be made available through Kaltura or the Course Resources tool in CatCourses.

  • In order for the Library to post AV content, instructors must enable the Kaltura Media Gallery within their CatCourses site.
     
  • We cannot accept personal copies of DVDs due to copyright restrictions.
     
  • Requests are limited to 25 items per course per semester.
     
  • We will make every effort to fill your request however some items may not be available.
     
  • We are not able to fulfill requests for content that is exclusive to a streaming provider.
