Regions

Africa is the second largest continent on Earth, the total landmass covering about one-fifth of the total land surface of Earth.  As result, there are over 1.369 billion people spread across over 54 countries with different histories, geography, and cultures.


To help differentiate between the regions, the United Nations’ geoscheme divides the continent into 5 different subregions, they are the following:

  • Northern Africa
  • Western Africa
  • Central Africa
  • Southern Africa
