Hello!

My name is Joe Ameen, and we'll be meeting on March 17th. Prior to the library research session, please complete the following:

  1. Two tutorials linked here -- please stop after you complete each section's quiz:  
  2. The Introductory tutorial on APA or MLA style. You only need to choose one from the link in the section below this. You will receive a certificate of completion.

None of the tutorials should take a long time. During our in-person session, you will be navigating to the A-Z Databases list and also using Academic Search Complete and UC Library Search.

Introductory Tutorials for MLA, APA and ASA Styles from UC Merced Library (LibWizard)

Follow the link below to find introductory tutorials on common citation styles including MLA, APA, and ASA.

Below you'll find a video on how to install and use the campus VPN. It's the tool that gives us access to library resources when we are off campus. Please make sure that you have the VPN and that it works before you need it. Campus IT and the Library staff on the second floor of the library building can help you install it, if you'd like. 

We also have access to the New York Times. If this is something that interests you, we have instructions on how to sign up using your UC Merced credentials below as well.

As a UC Merced patron you have full access to the New York Times online!

How to Access Your Group Pass

  1. First, you must be on-campus or connected to the VPN in order to register. 
  2. You must use your UC Merced email address for your account.  
  3. Click the link below to register for a new account, or to link your existing NY Times account. 

To get set up, search for Merced, and select University of California, Merced. Proceed with creating an account, or linking your existing account. After you have registered, you can log in from the NYTimes.com site even if you are not on the UC Merced network.

Already have an account with your ucmerced.edu email?

You must contact NYT at 1-800-591-9233 or 1-800-698‑4637 and ask that your current subscription be canceled before you will be able to activate your account under the Library's subscription.
