Credo Reference - Known Issue with Chrome Browsers

Chrome and Chrome-based Browsers

For the Chrome browser and other Chromium browsers (i.e., Arc, MS Edge for Mac, MS Edge on a PC), you will need to change your DNS settings to be able to use Credo Reference when connecting from off-campus using the VPN.

Follow these steps:

  1. Select Settings... in the Chrome menu (from your toolbar)
  2. Select Privacy and security from the Settings page
  3. Choose Security in the page that opens
  4. Scroll to “Use secure DNS”  (currently it may show as “With your current service provider”)
  5. Change this to With 'Google (Public DNS)' (the setting will automatically save)

  1. You should now be able to access Credo Reference while using the VPN off campus.

Streaming Video - Troubleshooting Access Issues

Some platforms, such as Alexander Street Press, can block access to users due to VPN and browser cache issues. When accessing content from Library databases, use the link provided by the platform, rather than accessing content via a Google search.

Signing into the VPN before opening your browser can resolve some access issues. You may need to disconnect, close your browser, and then connect again.

  1. Make sure browser is closed before turning on/signing into the Global Protect VPN,
  2. Connect via VPN,
  3. Open the browser and attempt to connect to or other video platform.

If this does not work, clear your browser cache, and then follow the above steps again. You may also want to try these steps with a different browser as well.

Western Waters site

Some Chromium browsers (Google Chrome, Arc) do not allow you to visit the Western Waters site. Here are some options:

Option A

Copy and paste "http://westernwaters.org" directly into the browser.

Option B

  1. Access westernwaters.org via A-Z database.
  2. To the left of the web address (or right of the refresh button), click View site information Default (Secure).
  3. Go to Site settings, and scroll down until you find a permission titled "Insecure Content". It should be on "Block (default)".
  4. Change the setting to "Allow", and close the westernwaters.org tab.
  5. Try to access westernwaters.org via the A-Z database again.
