Writing 101-13 (Webb, Spring 2025)

In-class searching: Part 1

We're going to do some searching with PsycINFO and UC Library Search for articles that are germane to our research questions/topics. Go to the Google spreadsheet linked here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vE4j15wCVNKpLt-eFkFhjiz-4ReG5vWY2f4jVZg4OwQ/edit?usp=sharing

  • Enter your name and research question or topic in Columns A and B.
  • Pull relevant keywords and search terms from your research question; enter in Column C.
  • Check PsycINFO's Thesaurus for controlled vocabulary (official search terms); enter in Column D; OR find Library of Congress Subject Headings in a UC Library Search record.
  • Search PsycINFO or UC Library Search for relevant articles; find the APA 7th edition citation for one and enter it in Column E.

In-class searching: Part 2

For the second half of the searching exercise, we'll search Web of Science. Using the subject headings and keywords you found in PsycINFO or UC Library Search, do a search in Web of Science for an article related to your topic. Use the citation trails. How many references? How many citations?
