Writing 10-12 (Merrill, Fall 2022)

Nexis Uni

Nexis Uni is an excellent source of news transcripts from broadcast sources. To locate those transcripts, go to Nexis Uni in the A-Z Databases list (https://libguides.ucmerced.edu/az.php), or click the direct link here: http://uclibs.org/PID/20081 .

To find news transcripts in Nexis Uni:

1. Click "Menu" in the upper left corner of the home page, then "All Sources."

2. Enter "transcripts" in the search box on the left in the subsequent page. Click Enter.

Here, you'll find news transcripts of the major US networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc.). Fox News doesn't make its transcripts available to database providers; however, you can find transcripts of their news shows by going to https://www.foxnews.com and searching for "transcripts."

Other news transcript sources

Most news outlets will make transcripts available somewhere on their websites. If you can't find what you need in Nexis Uni, try visiting the websites of news outlets and doing a search for "transcripts."

PODCAST TRANSCRIPTS

Podcast transcripts can be tricky to find. Not all podcasters generate automatic transcripts, and those that do, don't always make the transcripts readily available. Here are a few sources:

Spotify transcripts - Spotify lets podcasters generate an automatic transcript. The accuracy of these transcripts might vary, but are generally easy to understand. Search for the Spotify transcript of your choice, and click "Transcript" in the podcast record.

Apple Podcasts - For those with Apple devices, the Podcasts app is already installed. Use it to search for podcasts, then search the individual podcast for a transcript. Unfortunately, Apple does not generate transcripts automatically (unlike Spotify). Each individual podcaster must request the transcription service. You can search your favorite podcast for a link to a transcript.
