Business Society: Company Research

Business Source Complete

To find news articles about companies: search by company name. You can do so by using the pulldown menu on the right side of the search boxes.

Once you've retrieved your results, you should limit your search to trade journals. Trade/industry journals are publications dedicating to covering a particular industry. Their articles are written by journalists specializing in industry research, and by insiders in that industry. As such, they're far more valuable than articles from the general press.

Factiva Access

To find articles about companies: search by company name. You can expand or narrow your search options by clicking "Options" on the far right side of the search box (red arrow), then clicking the Source menu to choose a source for articles.

"Major News and Business Sources" are for the most part major newspapers around the world with large business sections. The Factiva search function isn't very flexible, unfortunately. Still, with a little digging, you can find good information here.

Local and Regional Business News

If you're investigating small private companies like locally-based retailers in Merced, chances are very good that you won't find any information about them in the larger databases, which tend to concentrate on larger companies. In such cases, the local and regional business press can be invaluable.
