Library of Congress Classification

Introduction

Library of Congress Classification

Do you have a research project that needs a book or two? An easy way to get an idea of what books you may want is to look for books by subject. There are a couple ways to do this.

UC Merced Library In-Person

The UC Merced Library uses the Library of Congress classification system to organize our physical collection. This means that books of like subject will be near each other. Therefore, an easy way to find books of a certain subject is to find the subject's letter, and find that section within the library.

This information can be found in this guide, as well as on the side of each bookshelf on each floor.

UC Merced Library Online

The online method is to visit our website and use UC Library Search. Through UC Library Search you can search through our collection, and it is also your connection with the library collections at all 10 University of California campuses plus additional databases to help you locate millions of resources.

Visit Using UC Library Search for step-by-step instructions.
