This guide will provide information to support your research endeavors for Writing 101.

Getting Started

To prepare for today’s session

1. Log in to the computer (or use your own).

  • Computer Account: Library User
  • Password: UCML
  • Open a browser and ensure you are online.

Goals

By the end of this class you will be able to:

  • access key databases for the psychology field.
  • find scholarly articles using effective search strategies & database functionality.
  • generate APA citations from PsycInfo.
  • use known item searching to locate additional literature.
  • access articles through the Get it UC button and/or Interlibrary Loan.
  • locate ongoing assistance for your research needs.

  • PsycInfo vs. PsycArticles
  • review basic strategies
  • Activity: PsycInfo for Keywords

3. Search Strategies in Databases (30 min.)

  • recommended databases
  • finding databases
  • additional strategies (fields, methodology, thesaurus)
  • Activity: Trying additional databases.

4. Find Known Items (20 min.)

  • Google Scholar
  • UC Library Search
  • LibKey Nomad
  • Get it at UC button
  • Interlibrary Loan

5. Review, Questions, Contact a Librarian (10 min.)
