A monograph is a book or "one write". While books go through an editorial process, they do not go through a peer review process. However, you may wish to determine whether or not a book is suitable for your purposes by considering the focus and/or reputation of the publisher/press.
It is easy to identify a press from a university (e.g. University of California Press); however, other publishers may be publishing academic content too.
