ArcGIS Online: Home

Sign up and use ArcGIS Online through the Spatial Analysis and Research Center.

What is ArcGIS Online?

ArcGIS Online is a cloud-based mapping and analysis platform.  While functionality is limited compared to desktop versions, ArcGIS Online includes everything you need to create web mapscreate 3D web scenescreate web apps, and create notebooks. Through Map Viewer and 3D Scene Viewer, you can access a gallery of basemaps and smart styles for exploring and visualizing your data. You also have access to templates and widgets for creating web apps that you can publish to ArcGIS Online. Additionally, using ArcGIS Notebooks, you can access Python resources to perform analysis, automate workflows and visualize data.

How Do I Sign Up?

Anyone with a ucmerced.edu account can sign up for free!  

  1. Go to: https://ucmerced.maps.arcgis.com
  2. Click on Sign In at the top right corner of the page.
  3. Click on Enterprise Login (UC Merced) then click the blue button labeled UC Merced.
  4. Sign On using UC Merced Single Sign On (SSO)
  5. After two-factor authentication is complete through Duo – you will be on SpARC’s ArcGIS Online frontpage. Your username will be your UCM (username)_ucmerced

GIS Data Sources

There are many options for adding data to an AGOL map.  You can add layers from the web, your computer, or ESRI's Living Atlas with the click of a button.  Further places to find free data include:

USGS National Map Viewer 

USGS Earth Explorer (raster data)

David Rumsey Map Collection (georeferenced historical maps)

Openstreemap.org (A collaborative map of the world)

GADM Database of Global Administrative Areas (government boundaries)
